世界森林日 | ​ International Day of Forests

每年的3月21日是「世界森林日」！Every year, on the 21st of March, International Day of Forests is celebrated across the globe!

當全球森林排碳量不如從前，會發生什麼事？What happens when global forest carbon sequestration decreases?

​

擁有「地球之肺」美稱的亞馬遜雨林，每年吸收大量二氧化碳，轉為生命所需的氧氣滋養著萬物。在2021年7月，持續追蹤亞馬遜地區碳排放情況的科學研究團隊提出警告：「如果人類過度焚林開發，將導致亞馬遜雨林的排碳量大於吸碳量，將嚴重助長氣候變遷」。臺灣擁有高達60%以上的森林涵蓋率，在氣候變遷下森林的確遇到危機，當枯水期愈長土壤就愈乾，樹木也容易被引燃，導致野火發生機率大增。

The Amazon rainforest, often called the "lungs of the Earth," absorbs vast amounts of carbon dioxide annually, converting it into oxygen essential for life. In July 2021, scientific research teams monitoring carbon emissions in the Amazon region issued a warning: "Excessive deforestation by humans could lead to the Amazon rainforest emitting more carbon than it absorbs, significantly exacerbating climate change." Taiwan boasts a forest coverage rate of over 60%, yet its forests face crises due to climate change. Prolonged droughts lead to drier soils and increase the likelihood of wildfires.

身為地球公民，能從哪些日常小事來守護森林呢？As global citizens, what everyday actions can we take to protect forests?

​

節能減碳 Energy conservation and carbon reduction |　多搭乘大眾交通工具，節約能源，減少碳排放。 Opt for public transportation to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.

降低紙張使用 Reduce paper usage |　減少紙張使用，選擇電子文件或電子郵件；重複使用紙張背面。Opt for electronic documents or emails; reuse paper backsides.

自備環保餐具 Bring reusable utensils |　減少使用塑料，選擇可降解或可循環再利用的產品。 Minimize plastic usage by choosing biodegradable or recyclable products.

與森林環境教育 Forest environmental education |　參與淨山，維護環境及增加森林教育，提升對森林保護和意識，從閱讀綠繪本來守護這片森林。 Participate in forest clean-up activities, maintain the environment, increase forest education, and raise awareness about forest protection. Protecting the forest can start with reading green-themed books.
