春天到了，草木開始萌芽，山林野溪中也開始聽見蛙鳴聲。今天是3月20日世界青蛙日，趁著一年一度的節日，我們來多認識一下蛙類吧！

目前在臺灣可以觀察到的青蛙共有 38 種，其中有 32 種為原生物種。如梭德氏赤蛙、面天樹蛙、翡翠樹蛙、盤古蟾蜍等蛙類也都是東眼山常見的兩棲類。

​

蛙類對環境變化敏感，牠們需要乾淨的水源及棲地才能生存，所以就成為衡量環境好壞的重要指標。近年來因為環境汙染、氣候變遷、棲地開發、外來種入侵等等原因，全球已有超過 30% 的蛙類正面臨瀕危或滅絕的處境，需要你我的關心。

東眼山自然教育中心推動蛙類保育相關課程，除了每年都辦理的「青蛙王子的約會」外，在 2019 年辦理「護蛙大挑戰」活動，邀請民眾一起守護梭德氏赤蛙免於路殺。2020 年與 2022 年的「樹蛙艾回家」活動，則引領民眾以竹筒營造艾氏樹蛙的家，讓牠們安心產卵育幼。

​

艾氏樹蛙會利用竹筒或水管繁衍後代，通常母蛙產卵以後，會交由公蛙照顧，等小蝌蚪孵出來後，母蛙會回來產卵給小蝌蚪們吃，是少見會護卵照顧後代的蛙類。東眼山過去因為植樹造林，使用竹筒支撐樹木，進而變成艾氏樹蛙的棲地。後因原有竹筒毀敗，因而開始舉辦「樹蛙艾回家」保育活動。2022 年更將活動收益捐給社團法人台灣兩棲類動物保育協會，希望能為蛙類保育行動貢獻心力。

Spring is here. Grasses are sprouting. Frogs would be heard in the mountains, forests and streams. Today is World Frog Day on March 20, so let's take advantage of this annual festival to learn more about frogs!

There are currently 38 species of frogs that can be observed in Taiwan, 32 of which are native species. Frogs such as the Sauter's frog(𝘙𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪 Boulenger), the Meintein tree frog(𝘒𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘹𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴), the Emerald tree frog(𝘡𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘹𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴 Mou, Risch, & Leu), and the Central formosan toad(𝘉𝘶𝘧𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴 Barbour) are common amphibians in the Dongyanshan(Mountain Dongyan).

Sensitive to environmental changes, needing clean water and clean habitat to survive, frogs have become an important indicator of the environment. In recent years, due to environmental pollution, climate change, habitat destruction, and invasion of foreign species, more than 30% of frogs around the world are facing endangered or extinct status. Frogs need our care and attention more than ever.

In addition to the annual "Frog Prince's Date" campaign, Dongyanshan Nature Education Center also held "Frog Protection Challenge" campaign in 2019, inviting people to protecting the Sauter's frogs from road kill. In 2020 and 2022, the "Tree Frogs Ei Come Home" campaign was held to create a home for the Eiffinger's tree frog(𝘒𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘹𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘦𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘪) in bamboo tubes so that they can lay their eggs and raise their young.

Usually, after female of the Eiffinger's tree frog lays eggs, she will leave them to the male frog. After the eggs hatch, the female frog will lay eggs for the tadpoles. The Eiffinger's tree frog is one of the rare frogs that will protect its eggs and take care of its offspring. In the past, due to reforestation, bamboo tubes were used to support the trees in Dongyanshan, which in turn became the habitat of the Eiffinger's tree frog. In 2022, the proceeds from the event were donated to the Society for Taiwan Amphibian Conservation in the hope of contributing to frogs conservation efforts.
